There is some concern that comics, which are popular among teenagers, would have negative effects them. As teenagers often lack the ability to judge, which is real, and which is not, some suggested that we should ban those violent comics for teenagers under aged 18. In contrast, some abject to this and think that it's not suitable to ban on violent comics.

Some people believed that comics would encourage teenagers to lose their temper and fight each other easily. According to the news report, some teenagers were killed by the other teenager who were imitating the action in the comics. Certainly, violence also exists in many other areas around teenagers, such as TV, video and newspaper. And teenagers will be affected by them as well, and why should we ban on comics only? However, there are already many supervision on TV, video and newspaper, except comics. Therefore definitely violent comics would easily affect the teenagers to become cruel and violent very much.

Undoubtedly, education is necessary to teach teenagers to have correct attitude to face violent comics, but not supervision. This argument does not apply because teenagers lack the ability to judge the content of the comics even after being educated. According to the statistics done by the social science department of Polytechnic University, it showed that more than a half of the interviewers would neglect the teacher's advice, and continue to read the violent comics. In truth, supervision is not enough for comics nowadays. Reading comics is one of the favourite activities for teenagers. This leads to a problem how much violent would influence them. Consequently, banning violent comics will be an effective to prevent teenagers affected by them.

Many people agreed that reading comics was not a good entertainment. Since they generally are meaningless and even contain violence. And that may lead to many social problems, especially the crime rate. From the reports done by the police in 1999, the teenage crime rate has been increased rapidly, and the crimes were mainly on violence, such as fighting, even murdering. It is true that banning violent comics would interrupt the right and freedom of the teenagers. Since they have their own right and freedom to choose their entertainment. Nevertheless, reading violent comics was terrible and cold-blooded. This probably affects the view of the teenagers a lot. In a result, it is usually harmful for teenagers to read violent comics without supervision.

All in all, banning violent comics are generally good to the teenagers and society. In order to protect them, government should set up the policy in banning and supervising the comics as soon as possible. Then teenagers in Hong Kong will probably grow up under a better environment.
